3rd Space Youth Programme

A vibrant, inclusive, safe, supported space for young people 16 to 25 to explore their potential in a range of ways, underpinned by our three core values of Inclusion, Empowerment and Sustainability.

3rd Space aims to respond to the needs of all young people, modelling best practice in our place-based hub, and multiple opportunities to access resources, connections, support, advocacy and representation, towards better mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing and life chances.

Young people can join in with:

  • Residentials and Camps
  • Outdoor activities and workshops
  • Social time to develop and maintain friendships
  • Learning, volunteering and work opportunities

We offer:

  • Support and advocacy to manage difficult issues
  • Resources and help to get things done
  • One to one guidance and mentoring to overcome barriers
  • Food, always!

Everyone can use the kitchen to bake and make lunch, the IT room to get stuff done or for entertainment, instruments and tech in the music room to make the next chart-topper, and get creative in the art room. There is plenty of space for young people to find support with an idea, share skills and explore new interests alongside their peers.

Who is 3rd Space for?

3rd Space is primarily for 16 – 25-year-olds, and in the period between 25 and 30 we explore other opportunities for them to be involved in that will meet their future needs.

We also explore an individual’s potential for volunteering, paid mentoring and internship opportunities at CS and many young people decide that 3rd Space is their community place.

We offer a space that is supportive for all young people but with a focus on marginalised young people and those with barriers to participation:

  • Disabled young people
  • Young people unemployed and not in education
  • Young people who want support with mental health
  • Young people with autistic and neuro-diverse traits
  • Young refugees and asylum seekers
  • Young people at risk of negative influences and relationships
  • Young people living in difficult family or housing situations
  • Young people experiencing isolation and loneliness
  • Young parents

What happens at 3rd Space

Activities currently run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Our weekly programme is youth-led and shaped by the current needs and interests of the group.

We value variety in our programme to ensure people are never excluded – offering quiet and contained sessions for those who prefer, as well as planning louder and busier times for the extroverts of the group.

Our open, ‘drop-in’ times are every Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm until 5:30pm. These are times when the group may decide to play boardgames, go on the Xbox, make snacks, play table-tennis, watch a movie, do yoga, do some colouring, make a fire in the garden and toast marshmallows – or anything else people decide to do.

Some young people may need one-to-one support in order to fully engage at 3rd Space. In this case we can offer a one-to-one peer-mentoring programme, to be discussed based on each individual requirement.

Third space has a huge number of activities that go on throughout the year.

Activities such as: Gardening, Cooking, Art, Music, IT

That’s just to name a few! All of these activities benefit massively from the generous support from our local community.

Last year, we collected surplus tools from people to help bring our community garden back to life and we are always looking for more! Things that no longer suit your needs may suit our participant’s so please think of us before they end up in the bin.
