Our peer befrienders all have lived experience of a long-term health condition, or a caring role, many have had strokes. This enables them to deliver training to a range of professionals as part of their Professional Development from stroke consultants to occupational therapists, nursing staff and many more. They offer a rare insight into what is like to live with their condition and what professionals can do or not do to help. This is hugely successful and has helped to shape policy at NHS stroke units.
Support for clinicians and patients using digital primary care services
We provide Digital Inclusion Befrienders to help teach patients how to access digital primary care services, appointments etc. thus saving clinicians’ valuable time. These are volunteers trained in digital inclusion, stroke, aphasia and dementia and all have a DBS check. They visit people at home and offer whatever level of support the patient needs to access NHS online services.
