GEM Project

An employability and social inclusion programme, helping people in Gloucestershire to overcome challenges to employment and move them closer towards or into work.

Employment Support

Finding a job can be a daunting prospect but even more so if we are also facing challenges around our health,  skills or our confidence. Our aim is to help you take positive steps toward employment, whether that is by trying new activities, building confidence, accessing training and qualifications or tips for job searching.

Currently, one of our ways of supporting people back into employment or education is through the GEM Project.

The GEM Project is an employability and social inclusion programme, helping people in Gloucestershire to overcome challenges to employment and move them closer towards or into work.

It is a unique partnership of nearly 50 community based organisations, managed by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust on behalf of the lead organisation Gloucestershire County Council and is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund.

Individuals signed up to the GEM Project receive personalised one to one support from a Navigator Developer to help them achieve their career based goal, developing life skills, building confidence and self-esteem, whilst overcoming any barriers which prevented them from finding work previously.

The GEM Project has been operating since September 2016 and was initially due to end in December 2019. However, over the last three years, the project has continued to go from strength to strength, being recognised as an exemplar programme and has been awarded additional funding to run until the end of 2022.

What’s Next for GEM?

The rise in unemployment means that the work of the GEM Project continues to be vital as those furthest from the labour market are now finding it even more difficult to secure employment. The GEM Project has funding until Autumn 2022 and is seeking further funding to allow the project to continue.

Creative Sustainability will continue to host a Navigator Developer and further develop links across all our projects, supporting people to create their own programme of broad and varied activities both online and face to face.
